Bouncing Like a Bunch of Vagabonds

The children and I are still bouncing around the country like a bunch of vagabonds, drifting from our home to Mr. Marvelous' and my home town--where our parents and grandparents still live.  All I can say is that the car is going to need a major detailing when this is all over.

While Julia was busy being the "Star Student" at preschool this past Monday and Wednesday, we slept in our house, but left by 8:00 each morning to keep busy feet off of "skim coats" of mud in this construction zone:
Looking at these pictures of our kitchen makes me wish I had some sort of application on my computer that would wipe and sweep the mess away, making our kitchen finished at the click of a mouse.

And while the construction crews are making great time extending wood floors, laying new tile, reseting lights and speakers, and installing toe kicks and such, there's still a LOT to be done.

But, this weekend we're headed to the border.  So, we'll be far from thinking about this mess:
The children and I are going to visit two college friends and their families.  They live about 2 hours from our folk's town and happen to live only minutes from each other.

Bonus.  I can't wait!

Something else that can't wait is picking a color for our kitchen walls. I need your ideas!  Imagine this: dark charcoal and off white cabinets, with off white and black countertops.

Who's got the eye for color design?  I need some advice.

I'm not really a color expert, but I think the colors sound great. You seem to have a lot of lighting so the dark colors should work well. I know it must be hard to not really be able to live in your own home but I'm sure once its done, you will feel it was well worth it!

You're handling your vagabondage so well! Not surprising, since you seem to be as cool as a cultured cuke...and I know, because I know you for real now.

You have such a bright house, dark walls might be fun. Or robin's egg blue, which I have always loved. I want to paint our kitchen/living/dining room a dark graphite or even charcoal with hint o' blue hue and robin's egg in our front salon (sounds fancy...really, it's just a room for Boo's encyclopedia collection and a lamp).

Glad your able to get out & about to keep the kiddos busy..
How about a red color... or a blue.. those would probably look good.. Let us know what you decide!
have a great weekend!

I like the charcoal idea... Maybe to a contrast wall in a saturated color, such as the robin's egg, and pull that in thru some flowers or plates or something elsewhere in the room! Tho, it looks like there will be very little 'wall' in this area at all! I would be careful on the countertops, they can look so "dated" so quickly if you try to be to trendy (not that you would do that!)

I've been wanting to do chocolate & robin's egg for years now.
Or a celery.
Of course, this is from the girl who painted her girl's room in orange & green dots w/ a sunny yellow bottom 1/2.

I'm sure it will be beautiful! Can't wait to see it!

Is that a double oven I see...I'm jealous!!!!

Have a safe trip!

SO how excited are you!??!

OK, I am an earthy tone kinda gal (like you couldn't get that drift, lol).....but....I LOVE LOVE LOVE smokey color combos. So, I don't know what tickles your color pallet fancy.....but, I am with mrs boo on that if you go with the charcoal and off-white....I instantly thought of adding that light blue in the mix. (or if you want to be more dramatic....a deep red)

From someone with such a sassy house who is already at least seven design makeovers ahead of me, I assure you that you don't want my advice. ;) But I am also impressed with how calmly and easily you are dealing with being kicked out of your comfort zone and totally making th best of it!

I would do a soft gray and accent with bright colors. :)

I bet you seriously cannot wait until this construction project is all over... and I personally can't wait to see all the pictures... as for colour... hmmm... something in the red family, maybe?

I don't want to pick on the RED paint people and this may come across as a little offensive....but I have my personal thoughts on choosing RED paint. Keep reading to learn more.

"Choosing a paint color in the RED family is for people that think they have miles of style but can't take the step toward innovative design"

(sorry hon...if some people choose not to read your blog now.)

I am praying for you sweatheart.

Use a color from outdoors. This will bring the outdoors in, making use of those great windows. Such as teal, turqouise (sp?), greens, like at Andrea's home. MOM
